New Hartford Fire Department
For over 100 years the New Hartford Fire Department has been serving the community with the very latest in fire equipment and emergency medical technicians. In 2011, the department answered a record setting 1,383 calls. The call breakdown is as follows: 38 fire calls, 882 EMS calls, 57 hazardous conditions, 208 service calls, 41 good intent and 157 false alarms. This amounts to 12,093 hours for calls and other department activities and more than 2,725 training hours.
The New Hartford Fire Department is actually two seperate and distict organizations. The Fire Department is a true department of Village Government. It's Chief is elected by the membership as well as all the fire (line) officers. The Fire Department is responsible for the prevention of, and extinguishment of fires as they may occur in the district. Additionally, over the years, the scope has evolved to include Emergency Medical Service, Hazardous Materials Response, etc.
